Bryan Cranston: Kevin Spacey ‘Not a Very Good Person’

The ugly public controversy over actor Kevin Spacey, who has been accused of making sexual advances toward unwilling young men dating as far back as 1986, is part of a change in Hollywood that has been long in coming, according to fellow actor Bryan Cranston.

Cranston spoke about Spacey during an interview with the BBC that was published last week.

“He’s a phenomenal actor, but he’s not a very good person,” said Cranston, 61.”His career now I think is over.”

Cranston said the sexual aberrations of Hollywood, revealed by the Harvey Weinstein scandal and other accusations rocking the entertainment industry, are a reflection of the way power corrupts people.

“There’s a disorder among all those people who use their power, their place or their status in any industry to overpower someone and force someone to do something that they don’t want to do,” said the “Breaking Bad” star. “It’s beyond disgusting. It’s almost animalistic.”

“It’s a form of bullying. It’s a form of control,” he said. “It’s almost always (done to) young vulnerable men and women who are starting their career.”

Cranston explained that the status quo becomes accepted until something dramatic breaks the pattern.

“That sort of experience goes unchecked until something like this happens,” he said.

That, according to Cranston, is where the opportunity for change presents itself.

“The silver lining is we’re not accepting behavior like that just because it’s the way it’s always been.”

“The pillars of what was are falling. Everything is being exposed,” he said.Cranston noted that young people should not feel forced to do what they don’t want to do for the sake of their careers.

“Women and men should not have to tolerate misbehavior just because of their youth and inexperience,” he said.

He added that although he never experienced sexual harassment first-hand, he has heard stories about it for years.
